We built the Virtual Office feature to help you re-discover the flow of working together in person. Essentially, it’s an audio chat room that can hold up to 50 participants at the same time.
Note: The Virtual Office feature is currently only available on desktop (Windows and Mac). To use this feature, make sure you're using Lark 3.17.1 or later.
☎️ How it works
So, how do you start or enter a Virtual Office? There are two ways.
First, in any group chat, you’ll notice that you now have this additional button on top, Virtual Office. Just click on it to start a Virtual Office.
The second way to start one is by just clicking on this Plus button, and then clicking on Virtual Office. Then click on the Invite members button to invite any teammate to join.
All group members will now see a green banner on top of their group chat. They can click on it to join the office. They can also check the number of participants who are already online before joining.
The first 10 people to join the virtual office will have their microphone turned on automatically. People who join afterwards will be muted on entry.
When they join a new virtual office, they will automatically leave the previous one.
What do the buttons mean?
When you’re in the Virtual Office, you can click on the buttons below to reveal a list of participants, mute yourself, or invite new members to join. If you need to excuse yourself, just leave the Virtual Office and the session will still continue for the rest of your teammates, and you can always rejoin anytime.
To go back to the corresponding group chat, double-click on the control panel
To see more people currently in the virtual office, click-and-drag the arrow to make the window larger.
How does Virtual Office differ from a regular Video Call or Audio Call?
Video calls and audio calls are meant for “purposeful communication”. Usually, you would pick a topic, schedule a time, and have a very controlled discussion about something that has been predetermined.
Virtual Office is meant for “spontaneous communication”. Think of it more like “hanging out” rather than “having a meeting”. It is intended to replicate the offline in-person work environment. Knowing who’s online and knowing that you can talk to your teammates whenever you want makes you feel like you’re working at the same table.
Is this feature available on the Lark mobile app?
Not yet. We are working on it.
